Biography
Ed Gomez, MD received his bachelor of science degree in biomedical engineering from Tulane University in New Orleans and attended the University of Miami School of Engineering for his master of science degree in engineering. Subsequently, Dr. Gomez attended the University of Miami School of Medicine, where he was a member of the honorary medical society Alpha Omega Alpha.
His surgical internship and orthopaedic surgery residency were done at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where he later completed a fellowship in sports medicine and served as attending physician at the Audie Murphy VA Hospital.
Dr. Gomez has co-authored several articles dealing with such orthopaedic problems as elbow osteochondritis, shoulder fractures, and sports epidemiology.
Dr. Gomez has received specialized training in minimally invasive total joint replacement of the hip and knee and offers the procedure to his patients routinely.
Board-certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Gomez is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
A Miami native and the father of one daughter, he enjoys numerous outdoor activities, including bicycling, running, weight lifting, and fishing.

Dr. Gomez takes the time to really explain EVERYTHING and he knows what the issue(s) is(are) and genuinely CARES about you and your overall wellbeing. He’s NOT one of those surgeons who does or needs to do surgeries just to fill quotas or make money. He does surgeries when and if and only if you truly need it and it needs to be done because your body requires it. His results are simply Excellent. My first visit with him. Having researched him prior to this visit, a fair amount of reviews were less than stellar. I, however, found him to be quite thorough. He was respectful, took his time, did not make me feel rushed. Answered all my questions and explained in detail. He went over my MRI and was decisive in his diagnosis. Two weeks, 4/30/21, ago Dr. Ed Gomez performed a surgical rotor cuff repair of my left shoulder and I am doing great. I have already begun PT in my home and am extremely pleased with the results thus far. Let it be known that this was the 4th orthopedic repair performed on me by Dr. Gomez and I am one of his biggest fans. He has repaired an Achilles pickelball rupture (11/2014), replaced my left hip (4/2016), replaced my left knee(06/2017, and now shoulder surgery. This guy is the best in my book. He listens, explains and has answered any question I have asked. He has a great team with PA Matt. I have been going to Dr Gomez for several years now, and always left feeling much better. Lately it was discovered due to unbearable pain in my right hip Dr Gomez ordered c-rays and i found out that i have no cartilage in my hip joint along with bone spurs. Due to not being able to take a lengthy recovery period (at this time) Dr Gomez set up cortisone shots using the x-ray machine and to my amazement the procedure was nearly painless and has given me incredible relief. It is inevitable that the replacement will have to be done, Dr Gomez will be the ONLY (along with his P.A. Matt) performing this surgery. He has done other surgeries for me and have had nothing but great success (as long as you follow his instructions). I cannot thank him enough for keeping in one piece and giving me the ability to earn a living without hindrance or mouthfuls of Aleve and Motrin. Thank you Dr Gomez and his team!!! Dr Gomez is an excellent surgeon but what makes him the doctor I keep going back to is the EXTRA interest he took in my insurance situation plus the care and attention he paid to my sister who was waiting for the report after surgery. I saw Dr. Gomez for knee pain that turned out to be torn cartilage. He explained everything in great detail and even drew a nice picture for me to be able to show my wife. Surgery was a piece of cake and the surgery center was great. My recovery has been excellent and I am back to golf only a couple of weeks after surgery so I would highly recommend Dr Gomez and his assistant Matt is excellent as well.Read more
